“Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyways.” -John Wayne
While this spice blend was created for all things wonderful and deliciously fall, namely pumpkin things, it could just as easily be named courage spice blend. For years I shied away from making my very own pumpkin spice blend because I feared that it would be expensive, complicated and turn out awful. Yet, each time I made a pumpkin pie (gluten free crust obvi), pumpkin crème, pumpkin cheesecake (yes, a nutritionist wrote that), vanilla pumpkin parfait, or one of my other 500 pumpkin obsessed treats, I found myself mixing these same 6 spices sans measurement.
While store bought blends do an okay-ish job, they never include the one spice that takes pumpkin spice to an entirely other level. The secret spice that has everyone I know wondering why my pumpkin recipes turn out so amazing compared to anything pumpkin they’ve ever had.
That secret, game changing, dimension altering, instant sweet taste of heaven spice? Cardamom.
After all the years of putting off making my own blend, I gave a shout out to The Duke and saddled up. It turned out to be simple, reasonably priced and easy to clean up. In doing the math, the blend comes to about $3 a jar, including the $1 jar itself. That is using all organic spices. Added bonus: my home smelled like pumpkin spice for days afterwards too.
Even better this fall spice blend is perfect for making Chai! Double bonus!
